Elizabeth VanHoutan
Elizabeth Richter VanHoutan has been an artist in many fields since the first time she took a crayon to the dining room walls of her parent's home at age 2. Currently she is the owner and creative force behind Punch & Sizzle, LLC, located in Decatur, Illinois.
After graduating summa cum laude with a degree in Interior Design in 1993, Elizabeth worked as a textile designer in a joint venture with the Chinese government, and as a freelance Residential Designer.
After several years of frequent relocations due to her husband's career, she finally settled in her home town and hung up a faux painting shingle, armed with no real experience but a desire to create floor to ceiling artworks. Six years, another move, and many experiements later, she began taking professional level courses using the Aqua line of products by Faux Effects. Her career exploded when she realized she had found a product line that elevated her true potential and began creating unique finishes inspired by fashion and nature and more often than not, a dream she had the night before. Elizabeth's work utilizes primarily textures, raised stencils and 'bling'. Her main inspiration is always the client, a concept she takes pride in. She considers this to be the best kind of interior design and doesn't miss a thing about 'agonizing over tassles'.
Elizabeth works out of two communities: Decatur, Illinois, the location of her showroom, and Jefferson City, Missouri, her beloved hometown.
Punch & Sizzle's studio and showroom is not only a visual feast, but host to art shows, workshops and industry events.
