Melanie Royals

Melanie Royals, founder of Royal Design Studio and The Royal American Academy of Stencil Arts, is a nationally renowned stencil designer and educator.

Known for her sophisticated and innovative use of stencils, Melanie shares her passion and knowledge of the art of stenciling through an acclaimed video series, books, workshops, television appearances, and magazine articles.

A self-taught artist who "discovered" the magic of stenciling in 1984, Melanie has been involved in the decorative painting industry ever since. After years of creating custom designs for clients in Southern California, Royal Design Studio released their first catalog of pre-cut designer stencils in 1994, introducing an entirely new concept, "free-form stenciling", which is now a much-copied, industry staple.

Continually experimenting, Melanie continues to seek ways of elevating the art of stenciling and remains instrumental in it's continuing evolution.
